El Monasterio Po Lin es uno de los santuarios budistas más importantes de Hong Kong. Hogar de numerosos monjes devotos, en el monasterio se celebran ceremonias y es uno de los puntos turísticos más visitado desde que en 1993 se erigió la extraordinaria estatua del Buda Tian Tan (conocida como el Buda Gigante).
El Buda Gigante o Buda Tian Tan tiene 34m de altura y está orientado al norte. Construido en una plataforma en la cima de una montaña, se accede a él tras subir 268 escalones. Desde allí se puede contemplar de cerca esta magnífica estatua y gozar de las amplias vistas de montaña y mar que se pueden admirar desde su base.

Se dice que es el buda sentado más grande del mundo. Yo le he visitado un par de veces y siempre me impresiona, aunque no sólo merece la pena ir por el Buda. El monasterio y sus jardines merecen pasar unas horas de paseo, disfrutar del olor a incienso que todo lo rodea y comer en su restaurante vegetariano.
Una visita muy recomendable para cuando tengas un día libre en tu visita a Hong Kong.
Po Lin Monastery is one of the most important Buddhist shrines in Hong Kong. Home to many devout monks, many ceremonies are held in the monastery. It is also one of the most visited tourist spots since the extraordinary Tian Tan Buddha statue (known as the Giant Buddha) was built in 1993.
Giant Buddha or Buddha Tian Tan has 34m high and it is facing north. Built on a platform on top of a mountain, it is accessed after climbing 268 steps. From there you can look closely at this magnificent statue and enjoy the sweeping views of mountain and sea from its base.
It is the world’s largest seated Buddha. I visited him a few times and always impresses me, but not only worth going by the Buddha. The monastery and its gardens worth spending a few hours of walk, enjoy the smell of incense around you everywhere and lunch in their vegetarian restaurant.
I highly recommend the visit when you have a day off in your visit to Hong Kong.
