El sombrero Trilby es un sombrero de fieltro también llamado “el sombrero del gentleman” y que se solía usar en Gran Bretaña para asistir a las carreras de caballos. El nombre del sombrero deriva de la adaptación teatral de la novela ” Trilby” de George du Maurier (1894). Apareció en escena en la primera producción de la obra en Londres, y rápidamente se llamó “sombrero Trilby” como su protagonista.

El sombrero alcanzó su máxima popularidad en los años 60, cuando la altura de techo de los automóviles americanos hacía poco práctico para conducir los sombreros de porte alto. En los años 70 el sombrero pasó de moda y desapareció del vestuario de los hombres , volviendo a resurgir en los años 80 y actualmente otra vez siguiendo las tendencias retro.

Si no sois de James Bond, quizás lo recordéis mejor como el sombrero de los “Blues Brothers”, que junto con sus trajes negros y sus gafas Wayfarer se han convertido en un look icónico para sus fans.

The Trilby hat is a felt hat called the “gentleman hat” and it is frequently seen at the horse races in Great Britain. Narrow-brimmed type , is characterized by having the crown similar to Fedora about I talked already in a previous publication, but careful, we should not mix them.

This hat reached its top of popularity in the 60s , when lower head clearance of American cars made impractical to wear a hat with a tall crown while driving. In the 70 ‘s hats went out of fashion and they disappeared from men wardrobes, but returning to emerge in the 80s and now again following the retro trends.

One reason why many of you may recognize it is through James Bond movies. In the first four films of Sean Connery as 007, Bond wears a trilby hat.
