How are the stripes of your cloths: yarn dyed or printed?

An English translation below if you click ” Sigue leyendo”

Apologies for my absence during the last two weeks. When I published my first seasonal post about french sailor stripes, I intended to keep a weekly basis but some problems with internet connections and the companies that supply it have made I have been “disconnected” almost hopeless. My girlfriends #chicasdelséptimo asked me a few days if I lived more quiet without wifi, and I had to admit that in some way yes, but I was basically wishing that everything it was resolved to return to my posts. And finally, here I am.

I will return to the stripes matter to explain a difference in technique that affect directly how  these sailor t-shirts or any other striped shirt you have at home will react to the uses and home washes.

The key to the intensity of the colors over the time is if stripes are made yarn dyed or printed. But what is the difference and how to recognize them?

The difference? Yarn dyed stripes means spinners dye the yarn before prepare the loom and start the weaving, either in a woven weaving for the fabrics of your shirts or either in circular knitting machines for the jersey knit of your t-shirts. The printed stripes are printed on the surface of textile fabrics with textile inks.

And now, how can we identify the difference? you will wonder. Really easy: watching the reverse. Yarn dyed stripes will have the same pattern of stripes in the reverse than in the outshell. Printed stripes are hardly to be properly appreciated by the reverse or we will see them through but not with the entire definition.

Surely you have one more question: which one is better? Normally the printed ones are cheaper but after several home washes, garments colors will lose intensity and also consistency. Yarn dyed stripes are much more stable after washing but usually prices of these items are more expensive. So your choice will depend on your pocket and the resistance you ask your to your clothes.

I personally prefer yarn dye stripes but like everything in fashion, it depends on the garment itself.

Any other question? Pleased to answer them …
